Were any of you folks disappointed that Sarah didn’t stay underground with Jareth in Labyrinth?
Hey. It’s David Bowie, at his most gorgeous. But it wouldn’t have worked.

Jareth was not supposed to be a potential partner. He was a representation of the world of little-girl fantasy. Sarah returning to the world above ground (baby bro in tow) symbolized her developing and growing as a person. Staying underground would have meant her remaining, emotionally, an infant forever. That’s not healthy.
So, sorry to burst anyone’s heart-shaped balloon but Labyrinth was NOT a love story. It was a coming-of-age story about how fantasy is fun but we can’t completely turn our backs on things that are real.
