I was under the impression he was supposed to be a bear of some sort.

I thought so too, but when I showed a picture of him to my mom she pointed out that he almost looks like he has a snout. Another question:Is he the German version of Big Bird like how Plaza Sesamo has Abelardo (Plaza Sesamo is honestly the only international Sesame Street version I've ever watched).

Me too! I don't like the movie but man those wolves are adorable. Lilly is by far the cutest one. I actually had a crush on Lilly for about a year, lol!
