It took me a month to get through half of Goblet of Fire before giving up on it. I thought that book was pretty terrible and lost my faith in the franchise...
I liked Goblet of Fire, it was my favorite for a long time. But I'm really bothered how they change the movies, like making it seem the pairing is Harry and Hermione instead of Ron and Hermione and Harry and Ginny.
Maybe you should give the books another chance, I won't guarantee you will like it but who knows?
I think it doesn't matter if something is popuular or not, as long as you like it. For example, Harry Potter is quite popular and I like the franchise.
*nod at the movie where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco and Blaise just escaped from the burning Room of Requirements*
But I'm not really fond of today's music. There might be the occasional song I like or I think it's not bad but I prefer my video game music.
*stop eating by the time Voldemort has Nagini kill someone; as the rest of the movie progresses, it becomes apparent that I can be a crybaby at times - luckily it doesn't happen often*
*have calmed down by the time when Harry and Voldemort have their battle and the aftermath, with only tears running down my cheeks*
