Cid: *stifles a laugh* "The chief of the police is a unicorn?"

And he almost killed Johnny.

Cid: *looks speechless*

Edea: "Oh dear... you're not hurt, are you, Johnny?"

I'm fine. Just exhausted from this stupid athletic competion he had me go through, then, even though I was still seriously drained, I stupidly tried to force myself to learn how to fly in my dragon form and.......

O_O

*thinks crap, should I have said that?*

Edea: *raises an eyebrow* "Dragon form?"

Long story. But how are you two doing?

Edea: "We're fine, we're actually here to visit a friend." *lowers her voice* "She's a witch too, you two could come with us."

Sure

*Cid and Edea leads us to a small café and we all enter the place*

*an elderly woman greets us*

Elderly woman: "Cid, Edea, good to see you again." *sees Johnny and me* "Hello. I'm Nina. And who are you?"

I'm Yuna and this is Johnny

Nina: "Nice to meet you. Yuna, are you a witch, too?"

Er, yes

Nina: "Do you know of the old legend of how witches came to be?"

*shake my head*

Nina: "Would you like to hear it?"

*nod, but wonder why she's asking me that*

Nina: "Take a seat, it is quite a long story."

*sit next to Johnny*

Edea: "She asks every witch if she knows about the legend and if they say no, she offers to tell them the legend."

Ah, I see.

Nina: *clears her throat* "Long ago, far longer than it seems, there was a sorcerer named Hyne. His land was in war with another and after a long war, he was tired and went to sleep. His people rebuilt the ruined land but when Hyne awoke, he was surprised at their increase in numbers. He started to kill children in order to reduce the number. Of course, the people couldn’t accept it and another war broke out. In the end, Hyne offered the magic half of his body as a peace offering. Once he cut himself in half and fled, the people fought over it. A man named Owain won the war but the body half wouldn’t listen to his commands. The Sage Basir revealed it was just the non-magic half. Owain swore to hunt down Hyne, but he was long gone."

*listen closely*

What happened then?

Nina: "Well, Owain and some of his men left the land in hunt of Hyne. It was only after they left when some women showed sign of Hyne’s power, albeit much weaker, like a fragment. One died some time later and another woman inherited her powers, another one went evil after she heard her husband died while away. More and more women left the land and found new homes all over the world. It was only when Basir was about to die when he realized Hyne had fragmented his magical half and hidden in the bodies of women. But he never had a chance to tell Owain. By the time Owain was back, Basir had died and the land was almost completely devoid of any life. From then on, Owain continued his search for Hyne, as do his descendants even after all these years."

Wow... you don't happen to know why the land was devoid of life, do you?

Nina: "I can only guess... diseases, not enough food, low birth rates..."

And how do you know all of this?

Nina: "I used to research witches in my youth and learned about the legend of Hyne. But no one knows if this is true or not."
