The Blues Brothers Thread

I wanted to start a Blues Brothers discussion thread, because I know there's a lot of you out there who love this movie (Kevin aka in particular). So, this is theplace to post your favorite lines, scenes, or just any old thing you'd like to discuss. I'll start: "The Blues Brothers" is primarily a comedy, so why was there a overwhelmingly long car chase at the end? This just always seemed out of place to me.

Maybe the writers, Dan Aykroyd and John Landis, were thinking they could pull off a crazy car scene, and also thought it would be wild and funny at the same time.

I think one scene that is halarious is when the Blue Brothers are playing in that small bar in the middle of nowhere and they're playing "Stand By Your Man" and they're behind a fence because the audience keeps on throwing beer bottles at them, for reasons that they're drunk possibly.

Another funny scene is when Jake gets confronted by his girlfriend, played by Carrie Fisher, in the sewer and after she forgives Jake, he gives her a quick hug and gets away from her. Funny, funny, funny.

"The Blues Brothers" is one of my favorite movies, from the fried chickens and a coke, to the Frank Oz cameo/ reference, to the amazing car crashes, to the music, to EVERYTHING, its seriously one of my favorite movies of all time.

hahaha. no i know your kidding. But I'm really surprised its rated R, the cussing isn't as bad as cussing nowadays.

That is true. But there is enough in there to earn it the R rating.

Plus, you have to remember, that was before PG-13 was created. I mean, there's still quite a bit of swearing in it, but if the PG-13 were around, they would have probably been more likely to aim for that.

I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD.

Because it was a comic chase movie. The State Police are chasing them from the beginning. The Good Ole' Boys are chasing them. The Illinois Nazis are chasing them (I hate Illinois Nazis). Jake's ex-fiancé is chasing them.

The final chase scene had to be absurdly huge considering how many people they ticked off while on a mission from god to save an orphanage.

I love love LOOOVE this movie! My buddy Lin and I, as you all know, perform sometimes as Soloman DH and Linwood Blues here in Memphis at different places, most recently during open mike night at a local comedy club, after the acts they had karaoke, so we did Soul Man.

I've been lucky enough to meet Elwood and Brother Zee Blues in person a few times and been to 2 of their concerts, and I have some really good friends that, if they come to your town, you should go see them: www.thealabamabluesbrothers.com. It's as good as seeing the actual Jake and Elwood shows (well, based on the bootleg concerts I have).

This is absolutely the VERY best car chase scenes in the movie industry--well, followed closely by the one in The Pink Panther (first one, not Steve Martin's).

I love all the music and the story in the first film, BB2K was kind of just--meh; but the sequel's music is AWESOME! You can read my thoughts in the forums of www.bluesbrotherscentral.com.

Obviously the 'locusts' speech at the end.

There's so much to love about the first film...I can't post it all.
