The Best Policy

We all know the old saying "Honesty is the best policy", right? Well, for someone who lied his way all through high school, I'm really trying to get back on the straight and narrow where the truth is concerned. So, whenever I'm with a group of people my own age, and I get in a situation where I can easily lie, I always tell the truth. Well, whenever I do that, someone always treats me like I'm some sort of goody-two-shoes and says "Well, if it were me, I would've just lied". And I've learned my lesson about lying the hard way. So, why does everyone keep thinking that lying is okay and doesn't hurt anything?

Because lying is temporarily stalls the trouble you get into if you tell the truth right off the start.

Not speacking for me, but also sometimes you get away with it. And that just increases the thought that if you lie then you won't get in trouble...

I think in your case, you need to tell the truth, just to be a good example at the least.
