Muppet Films

I separate the SS films from the Muppet films too. When someone says the word "Muppet" I always think of The Muppet Show cast first. The Sesame characters are "Sesame Street" Muppets to me and always have that label before them in my mind. I think that's a popular fan response though I can see it both ways. They're all Muppets really.

And I feel the best Muppet film ever was The Muppet Move followed closely by The Great Muppet Caper. The rest just don't seem on the same par with them, but they are really good films too (exept for MFS) IMHO.

That special was really great too. I remember buying it on video several years ago. I hadn't seen it in a long time and had forgotten that Jim made an appearance in the end. I must admit to tearing up a little and the frogboy doesn't do that too often.

I have it on tape, and I watched it two weeks ago. But I don't thik Hour-long specials count as "movies." I don't think feature length TV specials count as movies, either. I think movies are the things we go to a matenee to save three bucks and buy popcorn for 5 bucks and jeer the bad preiviews.

>>>Well, I usually use three terms: "Muppet Movies," (instead of films) "Sesame Street Movies," "Fantasy Films." Heck, the whole company (Creatures included) can be referred to as "The Muppets." <<<

my take:

Muppet films to me would be theatrically released films featuring
The Muppet Show or Sesame cast.

Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, etc are what I would call 'creature shop', as is Farscape(what happened to Jim Henson's signature before Farscape on the logo? What because its all popular they dont want people thinking its muppets in space???)
I never considered for a second creature shop characters part of any Muppet canon by any stretch of the imagination...however...

in 1989 it was clear there was a brief period where new Muppets(for the first half of JHH) were very oranic looking ala creature shop and half Muppet looking. These would include the awesome digit, Leon, Lindburgh, and a few others.

Also, I remember one time in chat Terry/Butchcat mentioned that a prototype Fizzgig from Dark Crystal was in the background of one of Gobo's solo songs. Hmmm. Also, there used to be a Land of gorch fan site that drew an aestetic connection between Gorch characters and Skeksis. And of course Skeksis had a cameo(of sorts) on Muppet Babies, though I would have loved to see Skeksis cameoes on Fraggle Rock. Those guys are too cool looking to never use again.

As for as specials counting as movies? no way.
Now there *might* be two exceptions coming up. Is Kermit's Swamp Years and A Very Muppet Xmas going to be considered Muppet films, or merely specials?

Amen, if you follow the logic that a Muppet Movie is any movie with a Muppet, you would have to include Star Wars Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi!
I think a muppet movie is one that features Frogs and Pigs and Chickens and Gonzos (whatever he is)

If I had known anybody figured it out, I would not have changed it.

I think the muppets and sesame street ones are basically the same. Kermit is in all of them (to my memory). And both Kermit and Rowlf were frequently on the SS show ( and still are I guess, I don't really get to watch it much nowadays. My favorite muppet movie is MCC, but I haven't seen the others in so long I can barely remember them, so it's hard to really judge.
Does anyone remember the one were Big Bird went to China. That was really good. What was that one called? It was FTB when he became the blue bird of happiness, right?
And what other creature features are out besides Labrynth and Dark Crystal (I feel kind of silly for asking, but how else will i find out).
That christmas special was excellent, but I haven't seen it in a really long time. So I don't really remember a lot, just that I loved it.
Here's an Idea. They should have a muppet television network. We could call it MTV....
Oh wait. That's been taken.
But all muppets all the time. Come on people, That's excellent. Let's get the ball rolling.

Call your cable company and say I want my MTV ( I couldn't help it, hehe)
