Telly's voice change

This has got to be one of the biggest voice changes Iv'e ever seen. I remember some time in the 80's his voice changed from being mopey scratchy and high pitched to Deep, gruff and Energetic. When I first started watching the show in 1984 it was Mopey and scratchy, but by the time I stopped watching the show (for a while) in 1988 it was deep and gruff. What happened?

I have heard his old voice before. Perhaps he the character became more refind or something as many a character has.

I didn't notice there had been a voice change until someone pointed it out, I was amazed. Telly's puppeteer changed, so that's the reason behind the voice difference. His personality changed too though, he's not as worrying as he used to be. (I liked him that way though! Hehe)

Well that's true, but Marty took over the rool of Telly in the very early eighties. and he had kind of a different voice when he started. So maybe Maybe Marty was till trying to develop Telly at the time, but found his "nitch" later. I liked when he worried more, too.

Okay, I'm confused here. But you mentioned that Brian meehl preformed him until 1984, so they must have gotten rid of his earlist personality as the monster whaches too much television very early on, but Brian mush have still been preforming him. Buut I don't know where he got the personality that he has now from? But I remember both of those skits.

Again, I learn something different about Sesame Street! I watched it in the early 90's primarily, so I never got to hear his "before" voice! ...Frankly I like the secondary voice/performer actually!

In a way, Marty Robinson kinda breath new life into telly and made him more energetic and the like.

I have to agree. Brian's Telly seemed to sound kind of like a depressed Cookie Monster. For the most part I prefer Marty's. Thanks for putting both those up though. Now that I finally heard Brian's Telly, I can sleep tonight. Lol.

I remember older skits from the early 80's with the old Telly would occasionally be seen in newer episodes right up till the late 80's. So you'd see the modern, high strung, gruff Telly in the main story, then a few minutes later an old Sneak Peek Previews skit with Oscar and the whinny, scratchy Telly. Then back to the street to the current Telly. Crazy days Sesame Street seems to be much more consistent nowadays with what they show. Back then SS didn't really think much of what was "outdated"
