Now, this title probably intrigues you. In case you're wondering what in the world I mean by "Year at the Movies", let me explain.

If you haven't heard, in 2001 (I think) Kevin Murphy, famous for performing Tom Servo on Mystery Science Theater 3000, published a book entitled "A Year at the Movies". Murphy watched a movie every day for a year, and chronicled his movie-going experiences in his book. The website can be viewed here. Now, I got this book around last March; since then, I've read it five times. I loved every chapter of the book, and I was determined to do something similar. So here I go.

The main difference between my adventure and Mr. Murphy's is the means by which we'll be seeing our movies. He saw every movie (bar one) projected in some way or another. I do not plan to do this, as I do not have easy access to a projector or the money to hit a theater every day. So, I'll mostly be watching movies on DVD. Most of the same rules apply. The same movie can be watched as many times as is wanted; stunts must be performed throughout the process; and a journal of the proceedings must be kept. My challenge will begin tomorrow, when I'll begin by watching my all-time favorite movie, "The Terminal". So watch here every day for an update and a short review of the film I watched on that day. Oh- and if a film is so particularly bad that I feel the need to swear in my review, I'll post the review at the Rio Grande, and put a link to it here.

So, wish me luck with my year at the movies.

Possibly, and it could be the first where a large majority of the posts were my own.

I forgot to say a couple of things:
1) Suggestions for films to watch along the way would be greatly appreciated.
2) I watched "Pulp Fiction" the other day, and it is the most vile film I have ever seen. It's so bad it actually drove me to vomiting.

Glad I said that.

There's a scary part about that list: I own most of the movies you mentioned there! The only ones I haven't seen are "Twister" and "Elf", so I'll take your recommendations to heart.

OK. I've begun my challenge, and have duly created a home site for it. You can view that here. The list of movies that I watch will be put up there, and comments will usually be here. Make as many comments as you'd like about what I'm watching.

Well, it's all going well about a week in. The site is up-to-date. I think I'll probably be watching "Home on the Range" tonight, but don't take my word on it.

Y'know, this reminds of something, during my term in middle (public) school, on the last 52 days of school, I'd watch an episode of "Courage the Cowardly Dog" each morning before school. That way, by the time I'd get to the series finale, the school year would be over. Since my start in 9th grade, I've been watching an episode of "The Bullwinkle Show" every night until I got through every episode that's still reran in syndication.
