I just got Super Scooter and WOW! He's so cool! I’ll probably put out a full review later on.

Anyway, I just went insane and decided to cut off the jacket and guess what? He doesn't really need it! Sure, the ball of the joint is more pronounced, but not by much. The cape covers most of it. In fact, unless you extend the arms totally up and out it doesn't matter. I wouldn't suggest adding any sculptural element there.

If they'd devised the star part of the costume straps to conceal that portion, it would have totally solved the issue, but I think there must have been some other reason for keeping the jacket on.

Help needed. My plan is to mix and brush yellow acrylic paint over the sleeves, but do you guys have any suggestions on how to do that? And what brand? Also what kind and brand of sealant should I use? I'll be going to the Art Store this week. Hope to have pics soon. Any help would be appreciated!

I already have another Super Scooter MIB, so it's like the best of both worlds.

I think the jacket was kept on so that new arms didn't have to be sculpted. Scooter's shirt is short sleeved so you may want to sand his arms down or something.

Cool, but as my post said - there really isn't an issue with the arms at all. There should be absolutely no shaving of arms.

Ken informed me of the arm/jacket issue months ago. My point was that after seeing the figure, that explanation doesn't make much sense to me so there must be more to it. Maybe QC regulations because I don't find the sculpting of new arms to be necessary.

The sleeves can be easily painted to match the shirt. Even though the shirt Scooter wore on the show had short sleeves, it would likely look terrible to sand his arms down, try to replicate the texture and match his skin tone. The simplest solution is usually the best one. The only issue most people have with the figure is that the jacket looks kind of strange underneath the costume, not really the length of his sleeves. Still an A figure. The extra jacket layer was just bugging me.

Getting back to my point, my question was about paints, not sculpting. The help I need is any suggestions on the best techniques, paints and sealants to use for repainting the sleeves to match the yellow shirt.

Well, I did it

I just bought some acrylics and a medium varnish and did a pretty good job. I'd say a solid B. It makes all the diffference to me. some green is still visible through the joints, but I think that's because the paint is still soft. Anyway, I got a little artistic with the sleave's seam and cuffs. I painted them red to match the rest of the outfit. HERE IS A VERY CRUDE SCAN.

Hey that's pretty cool. I like that solution to the jacket issue. I guess Ken didn't want to turn Scooter's shirt into a long sleeved one, but I think it looks great like that. And now it looks like he had red power cuffs or something. great job!

Thanks. It's hard to see, but the yellow seam on his "jacket sleeve" is painted red to match the cuffs. It breaks up the solid color and ties into his shoes and pinned-on emblem. Thought adding a bit of funkiness to the shirt helped make it appear intentional. I don't think I'll ever cusomize another figure, but I'm glad I worked on this one. I'm sure it's close to what Palisades would have done if they had more resources to pour into this (already cool) exclusive.

Nice for your first custom.

Given the choice between being inaccurate with the long sleeves in yellow or being inaccurate with the jacket on (the only two choices with this exclusive unfortunately) we opted to keep the jacket on.

Oooh, hey, Super Scooter looks NIIIICE!!!!
(No, I mean they TOY!!!!)

Really like your custom, Jamie!!!!! I kinda thought the jacket was odd, too, but I understand Ken's "lesser of two evils" dilemma. (Or perhaps this is just a lesser of two WEEVILS dilemma!)
