That odor is probably just plastic gasses sealed inside when the ping pong ball was injection molded. I doubt they are flammable.

But, like most (or all) plastics, any fumes caused from burning (or melting) them will be quite toxic and so good ventilation is very important when working this way.

You'll also get fairly strong odors when sanding plastic...

That's more or less the hot wire idea I was thinking about... with a nice holder thingy for the ball. It's probably a lot more elaborate than it needs to be, but looks like it works fantastically.

Gee, I hope I don't have to pay copyright royalties for mentioning a similar concept without knowing it existed already. :eek:

I'm sure you could get some sort of star wars kit or monorail add-on to make the moveable one in the other video.
