back in 1994, there was a special on ABC called Sesame Street's All-Star 25th Birthday: Stars And Streets Forever. it celebrated the shows 25th anniversary. when the special aired, I recorded it, but the tape stopped halfway through he special, ending right at the end of the rubber duckie clip. while I still remember a lot of the special, there is a lot that I don't remember, and was wondering if anybody could help me remember the rest of the plot. I will tell you what i do know of, although it has been awhile since I last watched it.

I started taping right at the end of the first scene with barbara walters, so I don't know what happened there (i think she was reporting for a show called 25/ 35). it begins with a man, Ronald Grump (played by Joe Pesci), who announces that he is going to turn sesame street into a grump tower. at first he is friendly, but when the cast objects, he gets mad and demands that they start packing. A reporter, kathy lee kathy, covers the story, and it is mentioned many times that she hosted a failed talk show ("i'm kathy lee kathy. I host my own talk show... for several weeks")

the gang gets together, talking about the situation. when one of them mentions that ronald grump is rich, benny is interested in the grump tower. they think about all the times they spent on sesame street, with a clip montage of funy clips, such as jim carrey showing his happy feet, various versions of c is for cookie, mel gibson on thew wide world of the world, and the celebrity version of put down the duckie.

kathy calls regis philbin and kathy lee gilford, who are upset over the situation, but when regis learns that ronald grump is turning sesame street into a grump tower he is interested.

the cast tries to get ronald to change his mind by showing a montage of the most sentimental clips, highlighted by ray charles singing "oh, what a beautiful morning", and featuring clips such as the cast meeting mr. snuffleupagus, maria and luis getting married, gabbis birth, the death of mr. hooper, and more, followed by clips such as elmo telling whoopi goldberg that he wants his fur where it is, grover and john john counting backwards, kermit singing being green, and kermit and the girl saying the alphabet. however, ronald grump is disgusted, and after everybody leaves, benny tells ronald that he wants to be ronald grumps doorman. however, ronald explains that he plans on having a robotic doorman, and benny decides that sesame street must be saved.

luis, savion and telly think they have lost hope when they find a fairy named hope (played by rosie o'donald), who encourages them to beleive in themselves, with a clip of the song "believe in yourself" and a montage of other clips, like ernie trying to see a movie when a woman in a tall hat sits in his way, and telly overcomign his fear of slides. telly sees an ad for a phone line, the tough guy hotline. the tough guy (played by john goodman) gives telly some tips on being tough, but it doesn't work on ronald: he calls the tough guy hoitline every morning.

ronald grump shows a rich couple around the street when they meet oscar and slimey, showing various oscar clips (the 1991 version of i love trash, danny devito carrying oscars can, oscar at a newsstand telling a guy, possibly jon stone, to buy a newspaper or get lost, and oscar in a giant trash can, singign a song similar to I Love Trash). the couple is disgusted and leaves.

elmo and zoe ask kathy lee kathy to help them save sesame street (zoe says, "you could be the girl who saved sesame street, instead of the girl whose talk show bombed"). she calls somebody, possibly a lawyer, and he is interested in taking some action, untill he learns that she wants him to defeat ronald grumo. then he chickens out. zoe takes kathy lee to a hiding place.

slimey then watches worm tv, a music video statrion hosted by two giant worms 9danny devito and rhea pearlman in worm costumes), and various sesame street music clips are shown, including adventure, healthy food, the batty bat, charro song, rubber duckie, do de rubber duck, the 1994 version of a new way to walk, aaron nevilles version of i don't want to live on the moon, and the celebrity version of monster in the mirror.

alhtough my tape stopped in the middle of that sequence, I do remember the following: at the end, the entire cast (and guest stars) sing "sing" (that must have been required to end the anniversary specials back then) and ronald grump thinks that they are too nice to deserve a grump tower. barbara walters also gets a party supply from sully.

there are also more clip montages. I remember the following clips included: bruno carrying oscar, the egyptian ernie statue tapping ernie, mr. hooper wishing ernei and ebrt a merry christmas (from christmas eve on sesame street) and cookie monster driving his train through the beat the time set.

can anybody please fill me in on the missing information (such as where they hide)?

My memory is fuzzy on this but I believe they hide in the area behind Oscars trash can where Big Bird's nest is. They overheard Grump trying to convince Oscar to move, because since his can is part of city property, he can't make Oscar move like he can the others. Oscar refuses, even when Grump offers him a bigger can with more trash(or something like that).

So actually, Kathy Lee, Elmo, and Zoe don't really do anything. Oscar actually saves the day, although he would not admit he was doing a good deed. He said he was just sticking it to Grump to be mean. That's when they all get together to sing the song "Sing".

At least that's my recollection.

I remember that one very well. It's strange that 'Ronald Grump' is coming back this season in Muppet form. Anyway, what I remember in addition to the clips that they showed was that the show was hosted by Barbara Walters and Sully was there with her. So Sully has appeared after Richard's death. I'm actually sort of surprised that Elmo didn't really do anything in this special since this was around the time he started getting popular.

Overall, I really enjoyed that show. I wish they'd make another special like that.

Yeah, Sully appeared at the beginning of the end. I don't remember too many of the other clips though except for the fact that some were animated sketches and some showed Mr. Hooper.

That seems a little weird to comprehend.. Oscar's can is city property, but Oscar has to choose to move on his own... But if it's city property, wouldn't the city have a say in whether he moves? And it's weird that the city supposedly owns a trash can on Sesame Street but not the rest of the street.

One thing I've wondered recently: Were there any additonal scenes with Benny? Because he was interested in working for Ronald Grump because grump was rich, only to learn that Grump intended on having a robotic doorman (I wonder if Sam qualified). Benny then shouted "SESAME STREET HAS GOT TO BE SAVED!" Did these instances have any later pay-offs of any kind?
