Can anybody tell me what happens in this Sesame Street News segment, and who performs which character (besides Jim Henson as Kermit)?

the first chapter of the three little pigs

The first SSN skit I remember featuring the pigs went like this. Kermit was standing in front of the pig's straw house. Along comes Mr. Pig (voiced by Frank Oz) who is proud of how strong his straw house is, that not even the Big Bad Wolf can knock it down. The pig goes inside, and that's the last we see of him.
The Big Bad Wolf (Jerry Nelson) comes along and acts out the most famous part of the story.

Wolf: "Little, pig, little pig, let me in!"
Pig: "Not by the hair of my chinee-chin-chin!"
Wolf: "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in!"

The wolf huffs and puffs up a gale-force wind blowing everything away:
trees, a mailbox, a street lamp, even a fire hydrant (ever try that?).
In the end, even Kermit gets blown away, but true to the pig's word, his house still stands.

There are at least two other variations on this theme. More to come.

not this one

I don't think that is the one i was talking about. This one is from the 1970s. In the Sesame Street segments section of Boober Gorgs site, there is mention of a skit listed as Sesame Street News: the NEW story of the three little pigs. I think it was listed as being from the 1980s. I think the skit you mentioned was also listed as a seperate skit on that site.

There are also two other three little pigs segments from Sesame Street news. One has the count counting the pigs as Kermi tries to interview them. The other one had kermit interviewing them to see how they feel about the wolf blowing their houses down.

i rember there bieng a blue wolf?

the early 'big bad wolf' was a huge, blue muppet (nothing like the smaller, purple version the show has now)....i guess the producers felt the blue wolf was a bit too initimdating for the youngsters, which may be somewhat valid...he did scare me a bit when i was watching the show in the 70s.

I've noticed that quite a few different wolves were used on the show. I think I remember the blue one and also a green one.

If the original wolf scared kids, than its no wonder they discontinued LuLu! :sympathy:

Here's what I remember about the NEW 3 Little Pigs' story. Kermit had a report that a new 3 Little Pigs' story had been written. And in came the Big Bad Wolf (the blue one). He said he had written the new story and he called the pigs out of their houses to do it. The pigs were worried that the wolf would blow their houses down again, but the wolf promisses that he will not blow any houses down in his story. The pigs meet Kermit and think he's Walter Cronkite.

Then the wolf tells the story. "Once upon a time, a wolf meets 3 little pigs and a frog reporter. He takes a deep breath and sings a song that's also a game." The wolf starts singing the famous, One of These Things, song. And he says the frog reporter doesn't belong. "So the wolf huffs and puffs and blows the frog away", the wolf blows poor Kermit away. "And the wolf and the 3 little pigs live happily ever after." The pigs cheer for they liked that story a lot better, while a thrased Kermit comes in and says he likes the old story better. And the wolf goes, "If you pigs like that story, I got another one about pigs in a blanket." It makes me wonder what the wolf has planned for those pigs in that story. :embarrassed:
