Does anyone have any info on this character?

Not the character himself, but why he was chucked, and how different David's interpretation of him from Richard's?

Because he's not for younger kids, he's for older kids. The same reason why they chuck all those old characters.

I actually recall a very early skit where Sonny Friendly was just Guy Smiley by another name. Then the in the 80's came the new muppet with the name.
