Actually, I think I may have figured out why people rather dislike songs in movies...

Two words: Nostalgia Critic.

There's a surprising number of people out there who take him seriously, and in a number of occasions (especially movies that employ Randy Newman), he acts like the more songs that are in a movie, the more torture it is. "Please! Not another song! I'll do anything! I'll shave my back, I'll your taxes, I'll prostitute myself, just please don't sing another song!!!"

I agree with this. I didn't think any of the songs were all that good. They...all actually made me cringe a bit.
