Some of you may remember the animated segment on Sesame Street where a bunch of kids go for a busride somewhere with a man they call Uncle Gus. At the back of the bus was sitting a hippopatamus and a snuffleupagus. The kids all say they saw the snuffleupagus but Uncle Gus saw only the hippopotamus.

Anyway when I was a 10 year old boy I was talking about it to one of my schoolchums who was visiting me at my home. As we talked about it she started to make up a little ditty of her very own. It went like this: Mr. Gus fell off the bus and ate a hippopotamus and a rhinocerus and a snuffleupagus.
Afterwards she said, "And then they had a party."
I asked "Why did they have a party?"
And she started to dance around saying "Beeecause Mr. Gus fell off the bus and ate a hippopotamus and a rhinocerus and a snuffleupagus and then, they had a party."
I asked again "Why did they have a party?"
And so she kept dancing around saying "Because etc." every time I asked the question she gave the same answer. I think she was enjoying herself as much as I.

Just goes to show how much fun you had being silly as a kid, doesn't it?

I'm glad you all got a giggle out of it.

After awhile just to see if I could get her to say something different I changed the question to why Mr. Gus ate the three creatures and we started exchanging lines back and forth.

"Why did he eat them?"
"Because he was hungry."
"Why was he hungry?"
"Because he hadn't had any dinner."
"Why hadn't he had any dinner?"
"Because he was silly."
"Why was he silly?"

I can't remember what else was said but I think it went on for at least three more question and answer exchanges.
