I have heard about this last year. I have not seen any trailers yet. To be honest, i dont know what to think. I feel the simpsons have gone down in their episode quality in the past years, and I am really exited, but also scared of what this will be like.
Here's the thing. I agree and disagree at the same time. I mean, I'd love for the Simpsons to go back to the glory days where Ned wasn't obsesively religious to a characature, but hinted at it often. Where Homer was an idiot, but not a giddy, drooling, numbskull. And where Lisa wasn't a Buddhist Vegan. I mean, I don't want to offend Vegans or Buddhists, but they made the character less funny. I really miss Lisa being a smarter version of Bart.
With that said, I ALWAYS wanted to see a Simpsons movie. Ever since they first got their own show sepperate from Tracey Ulman. That was when I was pretty young too. 8! I'd kill to see this, and even if it is lousy, I still want to see it at least twice in theaters.
Funny thing, if the Simpsons was from Japan, they'd have at least 10 movies by now! That's one thing I envy about their cartoons, they all have movies. Granted, some are less than an hour long. Sometimes only 40 minutes, as a triple header with 2 other cartoons.
Here, only a select few animated cartoons are made into animated movies while they're popular. They tend to not do well. Powerpuff Girls was a sad flop. it was pretty good as a film. SPongebob and the first 2 Rugrats were hits. Considering Spongebob was released the same time as Incredibles, that was a feat. Beavis and Butthead and South park did well for themselves too. I'm still furious that Cartoon Network didn't give Codename Kids Next Door: Opperation ZERO a theatric release.
I personally wouldn't show it to children under 12 (maybe 10 years old minimum) perhaps not because it's really obscene, but because it could encourage naughty behaviour in some ways. Such as for example, how Bart is depicted as often being a bad boy but getting away with it unpunished 99.9% of the time.
Funny thing about that... I feel more kids watch it than ever. I feel that by going younger, they ruined a lot of their earlier humor in the process. Besides, Bart's the last thing for kids to imitate to get me worried nowadays. There are FAR worse role models on TV/Video games to worry about.
One day I should try to see those Santa Clause movies. They must be fantastically funny.
Off topic, but I want to say, I thought the first one was cute. But the last 2? They seemed gimmicky, and I would never see them, even if you paid me.... though Martin Short in the third one had raised my interrest.
