Selma Diamond died of lung cancer after the second season of "Night Court". They had an episode where the character of Bull was depressed because the short, raspy voiced Selma had died. Then her replacement arrived, played by the short, raspy voiced Florence Halop.

Of course, Florence Halop then died of lung cancer after only one season.

Night Court sure had a lot of casting changes. Some people died and others left the show. Most shows, because of all those casting changes, tend to lose viewers or the quality of the writing decreases.

I never really watched them but my mother liked the Taggart shows and she told me that the actor who played Inspector Taggart died and his character was written out through death as well. They still called the show Taggart however. She couldn't really get into the series majorly after that. It just didn't seem the same with its title character no longer living in it.

Blues Brothers 2000 if that counts. If you want to know my opinion, that movie should never have been made.

Actually, that's more of a Movie then a Show, but still. Kind of counts, right?

I think you misunderstood the post. By saying shows which an actor's death is written into the show mean the actor died. In the case of Jean Stapelton they just killed off her character and is still alive today.

I know Jean Stapelton didn't die...i just threw that in there on account of that being such a great character in television history!
