Sesame Workshop's 40th Anniversary

This month marks the 40th aniversary of the Workshop.

I know their official website definitly says 1968 without giving the exact years but this site says more.

If the anniversary is this year, then why do we always celebrated it in the 9 category of the year ?

Because the show didn't premire till 1969.
