Sesame Workshop Ups Gorfinkel for Education Outreach

July 29, 2003

Anne Gorfinkel has been promoted to the newly created position of vp/exec director of Educational Outreach, for the nonprofit educational organization Sesame Workshop. She will be responsible for creating and delivering needs-driven public service initiatives that reach beyond television, and into local communities, schools, health and childcare settings in the U.S. and around the world.

Educational Outreach produces videos, print materials and toolkits, and provides training to disseminate messages concerning current issues on child development, such as literacy, health and wellness, and respect and understanding. These initiatives are comprised of a variety of multimedia components, which may be bi-lingual, and are aimed at reaching children, families and childcare providers. The projects, underwritten through corporate, philanthropic and government sources, are distributed through a network of distribution partners to targeted populations.

“Anne’s expertise in production and vision for new initiatives will help elevate the impact of our outreach work,” said Karen Gruenberg, evp of content. “Through her leadership and guidance, we will continue to identify children’s needs and create age-appropriate content to engage our audience in various disciplines such as music education, early childhood literacy, healthy lifestyles, and financial literacy.”

Most recently, Gorfinkel served as Sesame Workshop’s vp of project development and management, where she was responsible for creating the overall vision, architecture and tactics used in developing and launching new properties. Gorfinkel oversaw the successful launch and continuing development of the current hit series DRAGON TALES and SAGWA, THE CHINESE SIAMESE CAT.

Previously Gorfinkel was director of programming at Thirteen/WNET. She has also served as a production manager for the nightly MACNEIL/LEHRER NEWSHOUR, at MTV Networks, and at a variety of independent production companies.

Hmm...i'd kind of like to see her on Sesame's writing staff - if for no other reason than to see a show written by [Lisa] Simon and Gorfinkel.
