Sesame Workshop pursuing distributor for new Sesame Street episodes after Max opts out of contract

Aside from Sesame Street but related to Max: If Max is starting to depart the "all ages" programming, what is going to happen to all those Hanna-Barbera cartoons that were recently added to Max?

Either way, this is a sign that the future of the educational street many kids grew up on is in dire straits, as there is a very limited number of streaming platforms that would air programming for all ages.

Maybe Pluto TV could be an option?

If PBS weren't in such rough shape right now, I could see all the new episodes going back to being first-run there. But then they'd need another streaming service, preferably one outside of PBS Kids Video.

I heard that HBO Max isn’t renewing their contracts with the SS series so I wonder if that’s gonna effect the production of the season.

I hate to admit it, but I hope this new season won’t be the last one. I’m somewhat worried that Sesame Street will be no longer after this new season is over. Better keep my fingers crossed.

I think the key thing is to just take a breath and relax. We don’t know what the status is. The most we can do is just hope for the best.

And truthfully if it does come to an end, well…… that’s just the way it is. Whether we like it or not, nothing lasts forever and everything comes to an end eventually if something is pretty much on its last legs and can’t stand any longer.

To me, PBS has always been the place for Sesame Street.

This whole situation just makes me sick. Changing formats is one thing, but why buy up a whole bunch of stuff and put it behind a paywall first? Just heart-breaking when it comes to such an important series. I would've said Apple as well, since they have Fraggle Rock and seem to be more trust-worthy than Disney, but if not I just don't know. Ideally Amazon would put it on their free channel, but the odds of that happening are slim.

I agree with LittleJerryFan. If the show goes, it goes. After all, all good things must come to an end. Besides, Sesame Street will have enjoyed 55 years in first run episodes. Very few shows make it this far (only Meet the Press has had the longest run on TV). Sesame is presently the longest-running non-news program currently on television (if as new-to-PBS episodes), but it may be a matter of time before The Price is Right overshadows Sesame's longevity (and Price's ratings are still spectacular and there is no sign of it ending anytime soon). Worst case scenario for Sesame, it was a wonderful ride, and I hope the crew and cast made their mark to remember.

But in terms of number of episodes produced, The Price is Right has had more than twice as many episodes as Sesame has, and still counting (in fact, Price will be airing the 10,000th episode in February; Sesame will have had 4,736 episodes by the end of Season 55 in September).

Plus, the daytime soaps General Hospital and The Young and the Restless have had greater numbers of episodes than Price due to the soaps airing new episodes year-round. Price typically runs from September through late June (or sometimes early July).

It appears Max may be trying to rebrand their image. Now it looks like David Zaslav is destined to make 2025 a bad year for cartoon fans. They purged from Max "Ed, Edd 'n Eddy", "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy", the original "Teen Titans", many classic "Looney Tunes" cartoons, "The Looney Tunes Show", and even - get this - most of "Teen Titans GO!" You know the situation is grave when Cartoon Network's most popular current show gets removed as part of yet another tax write-off.
