Here's some interesting Muppet trivia you may not have heard (or maybe you have):

1.) Did you know Oscar the Grouch is supposedly based on a real person? According to the story I read, Jim Henson and his associate Frank Oz were dining at a bistro on day and were waited on by the most foul-tempered, grouchy, surly waiter they had ever encountered. Guess what his name was? If you said Oscar, you'd be right. And as the story goes, this guy became the inspiration for Oscar the Grouch :grouchy: .

2.) Where did Bert and Ernie get their names? According to Webkinz.com, from the movie "Its a Wonderful Life" (Bert was the name of a police officer and Ernie was the name of a cab driver) :stick_out_tongue: .

Actually, this is just an urban legend... according to Jerry Juhl, Jon Stone, and Henson.com, the names being the same was just a coincidence.. you can read more about it here: http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Bert_and_Ernie:_It's_a_Wonderful_Life_Connection

Bert and Ernie

Hmn, interesting. What's even more interesting is that a Muppets urban legend would be presented as fact on Webkinz.com. Guess the folks at Ganz really need to do their homework.

For dispelling popular rumors about our beloved Muppets, Snopes.com provides some helpful info too like Bert/Ernie as homosexuals and Ernie's death. But anytimepally is right in the sense that MuppetWiki is the best source of all Muppet info!
