I'll try to post pictures soon, but lemme just give a quick review of SESAME PLACE from having been there twice:
SESAME PLACE IS fun, if you have a small child to take with you. Seriously, the park doesn't give a lot of things for people over the age of 10 to do. And if you don't have swim trunks, forget it. Half of the park is dedicated to water rides.
There are some live shows (a Big Bird live show, Oscar's game show, Elmo's World Live) and a parade where the cast members stroll down the street, but that's about it. You can stroll from one end of the park to the other in less than 10 minutes - it's that small.
What I'm really sad to see is that the BEST feature of the park has since been taken away. There's a section in the park called SESAME STREET STUDIO, and from the park's beginning (in 1980) til recently, they had a television studio with a great recreation of the actual Sesame Street set with television cameras all around so you could see yourself living out your fantasies on TV. You could even go inside Oscar's trash can. But now, all that has been replaced by ELMO'S WORLD: LIVE, sad to say.
As far as taking pictures with the characters, basically it's the SESAME STREET LIVE full-size characters. I'll give them this much: It's very easy to get a good handful of shots, as the characters ARE out and about more frequently than those at Disneyland. We "met" the Count, Grover, Bert, and Ernie. And Rosita. Poor Rosita had the least amount of crowd attention.
It would be GREAT if the Muppeteers could freelance and give a show (like Muppet Show Live) when Sesame's not taping in the off-season. Occasionally you'll get someone from the show to make an appearance there, like Roscoe Orman (Gordon) or Sonia Manzano (Maria) who opened the first day of the park two weeks ago.
In all, SESAME PLACE is really cool....It's great, but for the SESAME STREET fan, it could be so much more. Really, it's about taking your children there and their having a good time, because quite frankly, the park is really targeted towards THEIR age group. In the end, it was all about my daughter having a good time, and with that, we got more than our money's worth.
