Can't think of a more Sesame Street-themed week for us.

On Sunday, we went to Pennsylvania to the one and only SESAME PLACE, which is a dream come true for any child under 5. Our daughter loved it. Especially ELMO'S WORLD LIVE!

And now, this Saturday, we're going to see SESAME STREET LIVE: OUT OF THIS WORLD in Cupertino, CA.

Can this BE any more SESAME STREET?

Maybe it can be. Only if at the restaurant you go to has a singing baker who slips and falls while trying to hold up 10 chocolate layer cakes.

Hey Jeff, have you been to the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito yet? If so, is it worth it? I've been thinking of checking out that 35th anniversary exhibit ...

Actually, I wasn't aware that the exhibit had opened already.

I went to the exhibit when it was at the San Jose Children's Museum last year.

Now THAT was fun. Even had a re-creation of 123 Sesame Street and everything.

Post pics if you can.

I will.

One note:

They do have an okay recreation of the TV show's set in the park, but I noticed they took down the Sesame Street sign off the lamppost. Perhaps some hooligans kicked it off or something.

I didn't realize SS was located in the 'hood...

"Oh, who are the gangsters in your neighborhood,
In your neighborhood, in your neigh-bor-hood?
Oh, who are the gangsters in your neighborhood,
The gangsters who drive by and shoot?"

I'd love to see pictures. There aren't any good pictures online anywhere, and I doubt seriously I'll ever get up there to that park anytime soon...this century...unfortunately...

I'll try to post pictures soon, but lemme just give a quick review of SESAME PLACE from having been there twice:

SESAME PLACE IS fun, if you have a small child to take with you. Seriously, the park doesn't give a lot of things for people over the age of 10 to do. And if you don't have swim trunks, forget it. Half of the park is dedicated to water rides.

There are some live shows (a Big Bird live show, Oscar's game show, Elmo's World Live) and a parade where the cast members stroll down the street, but that's about it. You can stroll from one end of the park to the other in less than 10 minutes - it's that small.

What I'm really sad to see is that the BEST feature of the park has since been taken away. There's a section in the park called SESAME STREET STUDIO, and from the park's beginning (in 1980) til recently, they had a television studio with a great recreation of the actual Sesame Street set with television cameras all around so you could see yourself living out your fantasies on TV. You could even go inside Oscar's trash can. But now, all that has been replaced by ELMO'S WORLD: LIVE, sad to say.

As far as taking pictures with the characters, basically it's the SESAME STREET LIVE full-size characters. I'll give them this much: It's very easy to get a good handful of shots, as the characters ARE out and about more frequently than those at Disneyland. We "met" the Count, Grover, Bert, and Ernie. And Rosita. Poor Rosita had the least amount of crowd attention.

It would be GREAT if the Muppeteers could freelance and give a show (like Muppet Show Live) when Sesame's not taping in the off-season. Occasionally you'll get someone from the show to make an appearance there, like Roscoe Orman (Gordon) or Sonia Manzano (Maria) who opened the first day of the park two weeks ago.

In all, SESAME PLACE is really cool....It's great, but for the SESAME STREET fan, it could be so much more. Really, it's about taking your children there and their having a good time, because quite frankly, the park is really targeted towards THEIR age group. In the end, it was all about my daughter having a good time, and with that, we got more than our money's worth.

Shame about them taking out the SS Studio recreation. That would be the reason I'd want to go is to get the 'feeling' of actually being on SS.

Yeah. I also remember reading a news article once where some thug attacked 'Cookie Monster' at Sesame Place. :concern:
