Season 45 Episode 4516 - Oscar's Clean Tuxedo

Oscar comes into the Laundromat to pick up his grimy tuxedo, but is upset to find that it has been cleaned. Elmo and Leela feel so bad that they try to recreate Oscar’s grimy tuxedo. Oscar tells them how he got the stains that were on the tuxedo. Hopefully Elmo and Leela can remember them all.

Funny thing is that instead of pushing the self-regulation angle today, they pushed the simple patterns games they're notorious for, especially since that was the word of the day.

The real highlight were 's memories of how he got the three distinct stains on his tux.
The first was when he was in high school, escorting Trashini at the Enchantment Under the Sewers dance. Please tell me most of you guys get that reference.

The second was when Oscar was a stand-up comedian. The stain made a putrid pattern as he called it. Yeah, a putrid pattern for his putrid patter.

Finally, we got another fan-treat in the form of another Oscar and Grundgetta wedding fantasy. She ended up not marrying him, instead throwing the onion rings dipped in anchovy sauce they were supposed to exchange.

Leela, Chris and Elmo then spent the rest of the episode recreating the stains on Oscar's tux. Chris was really eager to mess up, Leela having to absorb the colateral splatter since she was the one who had to wear the jacket.

Of note was a cute new song about finding the letter X in different words.
There was another segment with and a trio of new monsters named Bill, Phil, and Sally. The sketch then played like a shell game with their hats. Still instilling the patterns theme, but this felt like an Old School sketch, I liked it, though repeat viewings are unnecessary.

Yeah. Back to the Future Part One. Glad to see them referencing that one. Surprised they didn't have Seinfeldian slap bass music during the Stand-up comedy flashback.

But what about that Wedding reveal? Somehow, somehow I figured that was the case. Grouches leaving each other at the alter because that's how grouches do things. It would have made a great one off episode, but whatever. Just a little nod that Oscar and Grundgetta were grouch married is enough for me. Almost want to squee.

I really liked this opening story. Especially love the touch of the depressed Oscar drinking at Hoopers.

I really wish that they didn't have that lame epileptic seizure light show number 3 bit again. It's very much pretty to look at, but there's no substance. And it goes on too long. The Harlem Globetrotters one was much more entertaining. At least they're really juggling and bouncing basketballs around instead of having imaginary neon crap flying around digitally.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt that the Tallest Monster bit almost came out of an older episode. It really had that feel of Old School, and it didn't need celebrities or parodies to get the old style humor across.

A grouch-centric version of Back to the Future, I'm imagining the whole thing. The Puce Phlegm-mingos singing "Dirt Angel" at the dance. Present-Day Oscar jumping up onto the stage to sing "Johnny B. Bad". Doc Yellit Brown inventing the yucchcapacitor and getting mobbed by the international Sesame grouches. This stuff is practically writing itself in my head.

And hey, was that the grouch wedding they hired Martha Sewer to plan/coordinate? Meh, tosses salad at the bride and groom.

What was the new Grover sketch about (can't catch the ep. until tomorrow morning)?

It was essentially what The Count described. Three tall monsters wearing different colored hats, and Grover was playing sort of a shell game with them to find the tallest monster (the one wearing the yellow hat). The tallness of the monsters kept spooking Grover.

Great episode. Leela was funny being hesitant about get stuff thrown on her. Great to see Grundgetta again. Plus we got a cameo from Bert. The WOTD bit was okay. Nothing real funny about it. The new Grover skit was very good. David, Ryan and Stephanie did a good job playing the monsters. I liked that instead of MHALL, the tune-ins were all Murray playing a pattern game. It fit perfectly with the street story.

Hmmmm. I think we need a regular Grover smilie. The Super Grover smilie only seems to work if we're talking about Super Grover. Just my opinion.

Good ep overall. I agree with the previous comment. It was nice to see and Grungetta make an appearance in the Street Story and to have a break from MHLL. The new Grover segment was good as well.

Well, that's a twist. Since usually Chris is the one that's the guinea pig.

Still, part of me thinks they could have used the original orange Oscar for flashbacks on when he was younger. But I guess that would have been too confusing for kids who don't know that he used to be orange. Lol. Just my opinion there.

The street scene for this episode was absolutely phenomenal! To me, personally, it had a real classic feel! Oscar's reaction to what happened to his tuxedo, Elmo's eagerness to turn it back the way it was...both Elmo and Oscar were perfectly in character! The flashbacks to see where Oscar got all those stains from were quite entertaining- ESPECIALLY the wedding scene (hurray for bringing Grundgetta for that! I've always wanted to see what their wedding would be like)! Loved Chris' enthusiasm and interest for wanting to help turn Oscar's tuxedo back to normal, and Leela trying to be a good sport of what she's going through...it was just pure genius! Of course, I give whoever wrote this episode scene full extra points for Bert's cameo, making a new stain on Oscar's tux near the end (a good reference to the "Training Wheels" from earlier this season!). I'm beyond pleased about the extreme amount of Bert we've been getting this season compared to the several previous seasons! Overall, fantastic episode story!

The Word of the Day bit was quite good- Craig in the broccoli costume was absolutely priceless! I wish he could have done something like that in The Office!

I know, I know, I know...after the street scene, there probably had to be segments revolving around patterns, but hearing Murray repeatedly sing the "Guess What's Next" song was just too much for me!

If Sesame Workshop were still allowed to show any pre-HD clips, this episode would have been a good opportunity to re-air the skit from Season 36 where Bert and Ernie play the "Guess What's Next" game!

Of course, the true highlight of this episode (in addition to the street story), was the surprise Grover skit! It definitely had an Old School late 70's-early 80's feel, and I enjoyed it very much! Plus, Grover's classic faint of exhaustion at the end really made it mark! (*Sigh of praise*) I sure hope to see more "Old School feel" clips later this season- we got a good number of them last season, so I'd be beyond pleased if we see more skits like these before the season ends!
