I don't see how CGI backdrops are any different that, say, a matte painting.

Seems like they reused them anyway. Like they just did one long CGI backdrop animation and they plan on using that for a few episodes anyway. It actually was a bit less jarring here. I still say the Ernie and Bert bike episode was rushed out. Ernie being redubbed by the same performer (probably planned on trying to get Steve to record the lines but he was unavailable), the fuzziness of the episode, the fact that some of it felt a little off sync, and the giant Bert attacking Sesame Street on a bike.
