Regarding the early Sesame Street records -- my sister and I had the "Sesame Street Book And Record" from when it first came out and we loved it, going through several copies.
Obviously, the version of the theme song on the album is a completely different recording than the one used on the show. But the theme song on the "Sesame Street 2" album (released in 1971) sounds to my ears like the same musical backing track as the TV version, but with a different vocal track.
Interestingly, the verse starting with "it's a magic carpet ride..." isn't part of this recording, but those words were still part of the lyrics included with the album (in its original issue). And the repeated ending line "how to get to Sesame Street" becomes smaller and smaller in the lyric booklet, I guess reflecting the decreased volume as the song fades out at the end.
