I was give some old sesame street records as part of a present from a friend for my birthday on Saturday (my birthday was on Friday though)
one of them was Sesame Street 1 Original Cast Record, the cover is in good condition but the record is quite scratched but it plays quite well.

Although I am mainly a fan of the muppets and not so much sesame street I still love this record, it brought back lots of memories.

The record is similar to the first record on this page in the muppet collectibles section: http://www.muppetcentral.com/collectibles/muppets/audio.shtml
It has a different cover though and some names of the songs are slightly different.
It is an Australian release of the same album I think.

Does anyone know anything about this record? is it rare or anything?
I am going to keep it anyway, I like it.

The original 1970, "Seame Street Book and Record" was released several other times, you likely have one of these versions.

1. 1970 - "The Sesame Street Record" (without the book)

2. 1974 - "Sesame Street 1 - Original Cast" (CRA/CTW - the cover is a large group shot of the cast and Muppets around the street)

3. 1977 - "Sesame Street 1 - Original Cast" (CRA/CTW - a reissue of the 1974 album. There is a hot pink background with a photo from the 1970 album of Gordon, Susan, Mr. Hooper, Bob and Big Bird)

4. 1978 "Sesame Street Gold" (CRA/CTW - a reissue of Sesame Street 1 and Sesame Street 2 in a two-disc LP package)

I think it could be the 1974 release. The cover is a big photo of the cast and lots of the muppets, big bird, ernie, bert etc, scattered around the street. The studio lighting is also visible in the shot.

I just won this SESAME STREEET 1 - ORIGINAL CAST RECORD on Ebay, even though I already have THE SESAME STREET BOOK AND RECORD and SESAME STREET GOLD!

The cover art alone is worth it, in my book, since it shows Sesame Street back in the 1970's.

Plus, I find the set-up quite odd, actually.

Why are Ernie and Sherlock Hemlock crammed in the mailbox? And why is Oscar frolicking around in a different trash can?

I guess they didn't have enough spare Muppeteers for the group photo.

That, and also, even though Snuffy (and Sherlock) are in the picture, they're not even on the record. The record was originally released before their time!

Other people pictured on the cover that weren't around in 1970:

Luis
David
Hal Miller as Gordon
Herry

BASED on how Big Bird looks and the fact that Hal Miller is present in the picture, I'd say the photo was taken around 1972-1973.
