Matt threw himself into the role, and his perfect Shaggy acting made the films better than they needed to be. I remember reading that he actually screamed all day until he was hoarse to get the voice right. THAT is commitment. And yes, he's my second favorite Shaggy behind Casey. Glad to see he succeeded the role.
On that note, Scott Menville's was disappointingly whiny.
As for better film sequels, I'm torn... I want to say Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but it's not a matter of liking the first movie over the second, so much as liking the movies differently because they're both two different kinds of films. A Super Hero period piece, and a political thriller. They had two completely different feels to them, which is why the sequel was so great. It had a different genre entirely to it.
