Well, Beau beat me as the first one (Way to go, Beau!). Just as well. Still, I think it's a funny thing to realize that life is so plain that we're able to boast about hitting 10,000 posts. And in reality, if you consider we were at Delphi before this, we've got more posts than 10,000 under our Muppet Central belts.
I'm going to post a special avatar when I hit the 10,000 mark. Just so you know now, I won't answer any questions about it...but it's SPECIAL! (To me, anyhow.)
And suddenly, I reflect on my history here:
When I first joined the message boards of MC at Delphi--the very FIRST message boards I ever joined--I started out with the screenname FOZZI3B3AR. As a matter of fact, at MuppetFest! I would explain who I was by saying, "At MuppetCentral.com I'm Fozzie Bear--with "3's" and not "E's." Folks knew me right off the bat then! Of course, when this new forum started under v.bulletin I switched here as FOZZI3B3AR, but when I realized I could have the correct character name...I got it! And, obviously, being made a Game Host (after all, I think I suffered the first Role Playing Games to the Delphi Muppet Central Boards) and then a Moderator have been big honors to me. It means that I get to contribute to the community, and I hope I do a good, subjective, and diplomatic job as Moderator.
Then there's the other things I have brought up over the years: Ask the Great Fozzini, Billy the Psychic Rubber Chicken (which dry-rotted and became The Ghost of Billy the Psychic Rubber Chicken); now replaced by a living real rubber chicken I call Groucho the Rubber Chicken (who is also psychic for the Fozzini threads). I also used to threaten a Rubber Chicken Thwackin' over peoples' heads for doing bad things (like selling the JHC to EM.TV--anybody remember that?), but I've since said I'd stop threatening the Rubber Chicken Thwackin's...unless it's funny and someone wants it back.
I've met very many great friends from MC over the years. Some I'm in contact with daily, others weekly...some I only hear from on the boards. Once in a while I get an IM that I have time to sit down and chat (but, I'm normally on the run).
Of course, you meet lots of nice people over the 'net that you'll never meet in person but it's still sad when they pass away. The first time I ever had a 'net pal pass away was "Billy's Girl." She was such a joy to play with on the net. Very sweet person. I've always said I'd remember her always, and I still do--regardless if my apartment has lead-based paint in it and I forget things constantly and...and...what was I talking about?
But then! There are those folks you DO get to meet in person and when you do you normally have a very strong connection to them afterwards. September saw me going to audition in Hollywood and I got to meet folks for the first time in person (even if I had known them for years on the 'net), I met one guy I met before who I didn't realize was a friend from MC until this past trip--and of course, there's those of us who'll always have MuppetFest! THE best weekend of my entire life followed very closely by last month's trip.
Then, there's Muley! Everyone here knows Muley by now. You all know my true loves: Muppets, Peanuts, Ghostbusters, and Blues Brothers ... followed by the "OZ" novels of Baum and Thompson. You all know about Papa Roy (my 98 year old grandfather) and...well...the funny thing is this: Folks here know more about me than many of my real-life acquaintances here in Memphis, TN!
I think the grandest connection of all is the love we all share for Jim Henson's work, and his message. I preach it around these boards as if it were Gospel! It's the message of Jim--of Unity and Friendship--that brings us all together, and makes us a family!
FAMILY! We have that same common denominator that does connect us and people at ToughPigs.com like a family. We all love the work of Jim Henson and, as long as we understand his lesson and share it with others, we can continue the integrity of his life's ambitions and actually MAKE the world a little better by his having been here.
You're all my friends and I love ya all. Otherwise, I wouldn't be returning here daily and suffering you all to my silly jokes, puns, posts, and ... stuff.
But, 10,000 posts? I'm married to my computer and I need to get a life! Still, this is more fun than marriage, I'm sure!!
