I'll add my two cents on this since I grew up in the greatness of 80's and early 90's cartoons.
From my understanding, parents and the FCC have been saying they don't want to have their children see "violent cartoons".
So from my understanding, is a 5 year old kid going to get an anvil and drop on someone just because the kid saw Wile E Coyote drop one on the Road Runner and miss? Nope. Didn't happen to me. I just thought the cartoons were funny and felt sorry for the coyote and his many attempts to get the road runner.
Darkwing Duck had a lot of explosions but it was a cartoon, and I didn't think nothing of it.
Animaniacs had the Warner Brother kids dropping anvils on people left and right, particularly Wakko dropping anvils on all sorts of people. But that didn't make me want to drop an anvil on anyone.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady firing laser guns at the turtles, but that didn't make me grab a gun and go shoot people.
Super Mario Bros had Mario, Luigi, and the rest hit blocks and getting stars, fire flowers, super leaves, feathers, and what not, but that didn't cause me to go up and bang my head on something hoping something magical would come out.
I also find it funny that the Scooby Doo Show has that kind of parental warning. It's a show where four people and a dog drive in a van and solve mysteries. What's so bad about it, other than Shaggy is a hippie and he and Scooby eat a lot?
