Hey,
I know Kermit the Frog used to be a main character on Sesame Street. I remember many wonderful songs and sketches he did. I recently found out that Rowlf was also on Sesame Street. Can anyone tell what were all the appearances Rowlf made on Sesame Street? For that matter, are there any other Muppet Show characters that showed up on Sesame Street?

Well, Beautiful Day Monster appeared on both shows. And then there's what happened to Mahna Mahna. His original appearances were on the Ed Sullivan Show and Sesame Street. But when he appeared on The Muppet Show, they had to differentiate between that puppet and the one used on Sesame Street. So add a pair of sunglasses to the one for SS and Bip Bippadotta was born.
As for Rowlf, I'm told he appeared in the #9 sketch from the Falling Baker series of sketches from the first season. And he was mentioned as an acquaintance of Bob's by Bob himself at the end of the more modern episode with Renatta Scottie Dog.
Hope this helps and have a good day.

It would most probably be in the episodes from Seasons 25 and/or 26 from 1995-1996. I remember cause that's the last continuous episode I watched before starting my university studies in August 1996.

Thanks

Thanks for the help, Count.

One other question. Does Gladys the Cow count as a crossover? I know she is usually on Sesame Street (in fact, she was in a song with Kermit the Frog and quite a few others in the "Do De Rubber Duck" song- I love that song)
Of course, there have also been various cows on The Muppet Show (including a real one in the Julie Andrews episode) I guess that's sort of a crossover.

hmm, it would be cool to see Rowlf on Sesame Street, but I guess it would take some hunting.

Well, I was just thinking that it seems that there are way more Sesame Street characters that have shown up in The Muppet Show world than vice versa.

We know Bert and Ernie were on the Muppets Valentine Show, and both later showed up on 2 different episodes of The Muppet Show (as did other characters like Big Bird and Grover. I believe the episodes in question are the "Leslie Uggams" and "Marty Feldman" episodes.) Big Bird made a memorable cameo in The Muppet Movie and tons others showed up at the end, Oscar the Grouch showed up in The Great Muppet Caper, Bert and Ernie and Big Bird and a bunch of others showed up in The Muppets Take Manhattan, and of course a lot of them were on the Muppet Family Christmas special. And don't forget Prairie Dawn, Big Bird, Bert and Ernie and Elmo's appearances on The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson special. (I think even Grungetta showed up on that!)

Someone remind me of whichever ones I've forgotten.

At least it's good to know that they still try to work in Kermit the Frog on Sesame Street specials whenever they can, which is cool with me because he'll always be part of Sesame Street as far as I'm concerned. He does show up briefly in Follow That Bird (and he has a good joke too) and on Elmo Saves Christmas and CinderElmo, and The Street We Live On (in archive footage).
And of course, on the Sesame Street 20 years and Still Counting special. But I think I'll always love his role on Christmas Eve on Sesame Street best. That is by far one of the best Christmas specials of any of them. (Muppet or otherwise!)

:stick_out_tongue: :frown: :grouchy: :sympathy:

These characters belong together! (as part of Sesame Street!)

Glad I could help. If you want something truly weighty on the subject, do a search here on this forum for "Muppet Character Crossovers" and you'll get a whole thread on the subject.
BTW: We miss you and Sam over at the dorms. Pop by and participate if you wish.

As far as I know, the "9 Lights" segment was Rowlf's only appearance on "Sesame Street," unless you want to count the prime-time network preview special which introduced "Sesame Street" (this was not actually part of the series), in which Rowlf appears alongside Kermit. I have never seen the special, except a brief clip shown in one or two Jim Henson specials.

Though that clip was the only time (in my recollection) that Rowlf appeared on the regular SS show, remember that those segments were played over and over and over and over, day in and day out, at least into the 1980s. Brown Grover is in one of them too. (But unfortunately, neither of those segments--the one with Rowlf or the one with Brown Grover--were shown on "Unpaved.")

Hey, anyone have that early "Sesame Street" preview special? Or the "Falling Baker" segments with Rowlf and/or Brown Grover? Or "Some/All?"

Muppet College is still in session?

Thanks for the reminder, Count. I didn't know that thread was still running! :attitude:

Yeah, and Mokey, Wembley and Gobo were there too! I think that was the last time the Fraggles were ever on TV.

Just watch for the Sesame Street Biography special on A&E, they show a clip from it towards the end.

ROWLF: What are we going to do for a title?!
KERMIT: Open up new worlds...a street...hey Rowlf, why don't you call your show "Sesame Street"?
ROWLF: My entire career as a TV educator, nothin....(looks at Kermit)w-what was that?
KERMIT: "Sesame Street", y'know like "Open sesame"...it kind of gives the idea of a street where neat stuff happens.
ROWLF: Kermit, why you're a genius! (kisses Kermit, and Kermit grosses out)"Sesame Street", I love it, the KIDS will love it!
