A few days ago record producer Phil Spector died in jail after committing murder.
If there was anyone you could call a musical genius, he was it. Absolutely brilliant producer, but very disturbed personality.
Phil recorded his first hit at 17 with “To Know Him Is To Love Him”.
Throughout the early 60s, he built this tremendous “Wall of Sound” and had scores of hit singles for the Ronnettes , Crystals, Shangri-Las, Righteous Brothers, leading up to his masterpiece, Ike and Tina Turner’s “River Deep Mountain High”.
After spending a few years getting permanently stoned, Spectorproduced The Beatles I’ll-fated Let It Be album, and solo records for John, George, and Ringo.
In the late 70s, he produced a bunch of albums for the Ramones.
And if you listened to any Christmas music this season, chances are good you heard tracks from Phil Spector’s Christmas Album.
Genius, but you wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of his temper. Or his gun.
