RIP Neil Simon

Neil Simon, one of the most prolific playwrights in American history, has died ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ, Simon died Sunday morning at 1 AM ET after being on life support. We're told he had a failing kidney and also Alzheimer's and dementia. A rep said Simon died as a result of complications from pneumonia.

This is sad. Just a few weeks ago I saw the two Odd Couple movies for the first time in years (first time I saw the first since 1996 and first time I saw the second since either 1998 or 1999.... and in fact those previous times were also the first time I saw them, having rented them both times, so I really hadn't seen them many times). They are still good movies (the sequel isn't too bad, the first is still really great).

I remember hearing about that and am quite sad. Neil Simon was such a great actor...
