I owned 4 hamsters as a child. My first one I named Cutie and was heartbroke when he died. Then the next hamster I named Dickens because he was an escape artist (all hamster are, but this one really was. He spent almost all his time trying to get out of the cage) and managed to escape the very first day. After a couple of days of not being able to find him, we bought another one. He was pretty tiny so I called him Peanut. But soon after that Dickens reemerged! So I had 2 hamsters then. Then my brother wanted a hamster of his own so he got one and named it Shamster. Not sure why he selected that name but it was pretty hilarious! So we had three hamsters in the house. But this hamster took a long time to tame. For a few weeks or so, every time you'd put your hand in the cage to pet or pick him up he would bite. One time I got so mad and shouted, "Shamster is the dumbest hamster!"
Once they were comfortable with being picked up, I enjoyed them a lot. One thing we got a real kick out of was putting a hamster on a tiny pool table we had (I think it was called "Pivot pool"). And then it would crawl in one of the six pockets and it would be pretty funny seeing the hamster appear out of one of the other pockets a little bit later.
Always liked hamsters better than guinea pigs. I never owned a guinea pig, but whenever I was at a friend's house who did, they always seemed a lot more skittish and afraid than hamsters are.

Thanks so much guys. Truthfully I set up this thread more for my wife then myself. I miss l'il Dunk-a-chino, but she took it really hard. I wouldn't let her see him afterwards, so I wrapped him up, put him in a box and we buried him. I knew all your kind words would help comfort her and I thank you all so much for contributing to this online memorial!

People think I am crazy that I bury ever fish that I have and cry for an hour or two... or three or so when they die... my parents say I can not have any more fish anymore now.... I don't think I am ever going to have any more pets for a great while because of it...

We has to dissect (sp) a worm today and I cried so the my teacher didn't make me do it thank goodness-- I would have died. Tomorow and the next day they are dissecting (sp) frogs.... Luckily I won't be there!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your hamster. I remember owning a hamster when I was a kid. The first day we got Pandora, she escaped from her cage and hid under a wall for a year and a half. And we'd sometimes see Pandora stick her head out from underneath the dishwasher and then disappear again. When we finally caught her and put her back, she ended up dying a few days later.

I hope things go better for you soon.
