There shouldn't be, but people selling inadvisable financial advise SHOULD be held accountable. And if not, TV stations should take a little more care about what infomercials their selling. Not to mention the various completely underfunded government agencies that were SUPPOSED to protect the people from scam artists like that. That and the start your own home business websites that have ever changing numbers in their web address. Shifty stuff. And we're worried that little Madison is going to see a McDonalds commercial and cry until she gets her way.

Seriously, those are the kind of easily taken suckers that BUY Baby Einstein videos.

I agree about the government agencies failing in their job, absolutely. And if companies are actually committing fraud, they also should be held accountable. But as far as just selling advice, that's the customer's responsibility. No one is forcing people to buy into this stuff. They needed to do their homework too.

Indeed things are the responsibility of the consumer as well. I don't think that many people would be brain dead bloody drooling idiotically stupid to buy these things... but there should ALSO be responsibility on the part of TV station owners that get money from airing these things. Plus, all it takes is that really dumb, greedy few to screw up the banking system even further.

Yet, when stuff like Baby Einstein and Your Baby can Read DID get figured out, commercials were pulled left and right. Products that are considered dangerous or fraud are usually exposed and their ads are indeed pulled, be it by networks or independent stations or by local groups.

If we have these do gooder parental groups forcing them to pull candy commercials, we sure as heck should have some do gooders pull get rich quick scheme ads.

Well again we're running up against the difference between children and adults. Children need to be look after because they can't defend themselves and need guidance to make decisions. Whereas adults are grown people and if they want to make stupid decisions with their money, that is their choice.

The only thing we can do is campaign to get good advice and information out there in the media to contradict and challenge the bad information.

It's like Prohibition. It didn't work because we can't control people's behavior 100%. BUT we have done the next best thing by offering help to alcoholics and the victims of alcoholics. Such as AA groups and resources for women to escape alcoholic husbands (i.e. women's shelters and more acceptance for divorce on the grounds of abuse).

Now I do think there are times when people's behavior should be controlled. I wouldn't mind getting women who drink while pregnant in trouble, because they are directly putting another life at risk. Frankly, children don't get much protection in our country overall.

I hate how Sesame Street has to cater to 2 year olds, yet they feel said 2 year olds have to learn about engineering and multiplication tables for this reason. I HATE Baby TV (a real channel with garbage programming that doesn't work), and I HATE Baby Einstine/Baby Genius/Your Baby can Read scams. Though, I would say, if you HAVE to sit your kid down for a few minutes to take care of laundry or a phone call, you have to sit your baby down for a few minutes.

Now, I think people should be smart enough to know that even if they did sit kids that young in front of TV that it does nothing anyway, and kids will just run around and do what kids do anyway. How many Amazon reviews of Sesame Road and old out of print Sesame Street VHS have we seen that said "My 15 month old doesn't show any interest." OF COURSE he bloody well doesn't! He's 15 months old!

Now, I've been an outspoken critic of Dora the spastic only a role model because she's not white talks like an American Tourist 4 year old and Barney the Pedophilosaurus for years. Seriously... always hugging kids and telling them how much he loves them? This crap dumbed down kids' programming for years to come. I'm so glad filth like Teletubbies and Boohbah for those age groups that don't really benefit are long gone.
why are you watching Baby TV??!! and "watch" these kid shows all the time or talk about em? weird!

Why is the fact a humongous Sesame Street/Mr. Rogers/Reading Rainbow/etc. also wanted to come up with a children's television program but couldn't get anything down together and would rather work on something for older children weird discussing how horrendous the slide in quality since Barney weird ?

I've never actually seen Baby TV or Pets TV, but still... babies shouldn't be watching TV, they're self sustaining. Anything that actually can walk around or move about may have to sit in front of something to keep them occupied if there's a phone call or there's a load of laundry or something. But they should never make or market programs as something kids that little will watch. Especially if it tells the gullible adults that they're kids will be geniuses upon watching.

As a Sesame Street fan on this board, you hear a LOT of complaints about how the show changed its tone to something more, as they say all too many times, "dumbed down." And the thing is, a lot of these fans don't look at the variables in the equation. The Journey to Ernie segment was Sesame Street trying to ape their version of Blues Clues and Dora for example. Thankfully, the writers came to their senses and revolted on that one. The problem with the show today is A) the fact the show has to clone these terrible for profit screaming toy commercials that don't really teach anything and B) the fact their demographic slowly slid from 4-6 (6 being at most in cases) to 2-4 when 2 year olds shouldn't be watching TV.

And above all, remember... Toddlers don't write shows for toddlers. They're written by people in their 30's, 40's, 50's... Dude manipulating Big Bird's old enough to be our grandfather and doesn't feel the least bit foolish. All those people actually studied other kids programming to prepare them to work on something for the same age group. What's strange about that? other than the fact my life goals completely fell through.
