Audiences don't usually fall for them. by the way... I stated it on the Yellow Submarine thread that most remakes are perceived as stupid by the general public... again, i state the 1990's remake of Psycho as my basis. That went well...If audiences stopped falling for these remakes every single time
Sure, there are times when we have The Nutty Professor and stuff like that when they're sorta popular and have a sequel...
As far as horror movies go, remake or not, dudes LOVE taking their girlfriends to horror movies for an obvious male chauvinistic type deal (they'll scream and huddle onto them)... and frankly, a lot of the horror remakes as of late have been remakes of throwaway horror films... ones that are remakes of popular horror films, remember the Omen remake 3 years ago, usually tend to do moderately okay for a while and then tank. I'm guessing it's because the throwaways aren't popular and mainstream enough to get the same backlash.
As for these films, fans ARE sharply divided. One half wants to have an open mind and see it, the other half feels it's unnecessary...
