Are relationships over rated or are they worth it? I haven't been in one in over 5 years yet other people that I either knew personally in highschool or knew of by by knowing their name are either married or engaged.

I mean, I could get in one I suppose, but I just don't for some reason.

Yeah it's odd to know people yougner than me married with kids. Are relationships overrated? Coming from someone(me) who couldnt even get a girlfriend til I was 26(Im 27 now) it is something I have wanted since Regan was president. It just so happens that in this society, girls are groomed to not go for the genuinely nice guys:smile:

I think all relationships are over-rated until you hit about 17 or 18. I've found it's different with every person, too. My aunt didn't get married until she was 32. Of course, most of that was her doing. I think there are plenty of girls out there who would like genuinely nice guys, you just gotta know where to look. But, of course, you don't have to listen to me. I'm not even allowed to date yet, so I have no real experience with this sort of thing.

This is often true. It irked me more than anything when a girl left me for some trashy guy who was into drugs or some guy who wanted to go around fighting people all the time. However, girls eventually need to learn from their mistakes, like my wife. She had had her share of bad boy boyfriends and by the time we met, she was ready for someone who actually respected her. This was good news for me because she was one of the more sought-after girls in school at the time. I have no idea how I ended up with her with so many guys pining for her.

Are relationships worth it? I know this is a cliche, but they're a lot of work and there's a lot of compromise involved. It all depends on you. If you like your supreme independence and don't want someone hanging around all the time, don't get a girlfriend/boyfriend. However, if you like the idea of having a constant companion to hang out with and spend money on, by all means go out and find someone (preferably someone who's willing to spend as much on you as you are on them).

Personally,my last relationship was 18 years ago, lasted on and off for 5 years.Haven't dated in over 10 years, not with anyone in almost 8 years.:smirk: I have one best friend, not the same as being in a relationship, but its good enough for now.But that's just me,I miss being in a relationship(and all that comes with it);I like being alone, just don't like being lonely.

I know how you feel. I have never got as far as getting into a relationship with someone yet but I sure would like to. I hate being lonely and I dont want to be old by the time I find someone.

Well for me, I haven't been in a relationship in over 5 years, not since I graduated highschool. And you're right, relationships are a lot of work. I think Chris Rock put it best when he said "relationships are easy to get into but hard to maintain." I usually don't hang around with a lot ofpeople and have gotten used to just being by myself. I might go eat by myself or I might see a movie by myself, etc. I don't know if I would like having somebody hanging around me every hour of every day and calling to me to see what I'm doing. Would I like a girlfriend, I wouldn't mind one. But it really is a matter of time before she becomes annoying to me!

I'd really like a girlfriend, and with my short list of requirements, I could probably find one tomorrow: 1) Good sense of Jerry Seinfeld's humor; 2) A good height; 3) Fairly smart (but this is not a requisite.) If I am to believe the jokes that I hear, I'd rather stay single. If I am to believe a short idiot kid in my class called Justin, a physical (but not emotional) relationship is the single most important thing in the world (over ending war and the Muppets) and I need to find the "hottest" girl in the entire school and bug the crap out of her until she agrees to be my girlfriend. Personally, I'd rather stick to my own theory: Yes, a relationship is important, but there are more important things in life, like your IQ.

EDIT: The heck with it. I'm coming out and saying it. I am currently infatuated with a girl one grade ahead of my own with the initials A.K. We have been friends for some time now. Who knows, maybe something'll come out of it.

On my 13th birthday I was like:

"Ok, cool now I am a teenager and I am TOTALLY gonna find a boyfriend
(Because otherwise my fellow teenagers will find me weird - I thought silly isn't it?!!)"

... But then I found that it was harder than I thought, and I was like:

"Okay, I may not get a boyfriend this year, um... But as long as I'll get a boyfriend before I'm 15 it'll do."

AND! Here I am 16 years old and still single. And I don't care if people think I am weird -They might do that anyway! :stick_out_tongue: And I think most (not all) but most teenage relationships are based more on "We are cool, because we have a girlfriend/boyfriend" than "We love each other! We do! We Do! WE DOooooooooooooooooooooooo!!" - okay you get the picture. I just hope I will someday find a "I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" guy.
