My friend is trying to register on MC, but unfortunately we've encountered some problems. My friend's email address that we're registering with is from gmail, but when we clicked the register button it said "The administrator has banned your email address. To contact the administrator click here".

Now, why would the address be banned? Is it because it's gmail, and not an address like Rogers or Sympatico? I had a similar problem when I tried to sign up at first, but as I have more than one email, at least one of them worked.

Yeah, that happened to me as well. Try it with a different email address. My problem occurred with my Hotmail account (coincidentally, named "mahna-mahna"), but it worked with my Eastlink address. I think a Yahoo address may work, as that's what D'Snowth registered under. Give that a shot and see what happens, OK?

Also, while I'm asking, are dead account ever cleaned out? You know, like accounts with less than 10 posts that haven't been used in, let's say, 6 months? Because my friend here and I are having a hard time finding a username that they'd like to use, that isn't inhabited by a dead account (ex. Ol' Brown Ears).

Unfortunately not. Actually, if it wasn't for dead accounts, I wouldn't be That Announcer, I'd probably be "Lew Zealand".

Well, why not? It's only fair to people who want to sign up, and it's not hurting the user who hasn't signed in in two years who has only 2 posts. >:| It's just a little frustrating, sorry.

Exactly what I was thinking when I was trying to sign up!

Yahoo doesn't work either. The only reason I'm still here is because I was already registered here under a different address. When I lost that one, I had to switch to my Yahoo! address. That's how I turned from "Member" to "Registered User"

Oh, okay, I see, that makes exactly no sense at all. :| Maybe Phillip Chapman could shed some light on this email situation, so tomorrow my friend can try again to sign up.

I think I'd be infavour of purging a lot of the non-posting members without a significant number of posts. I'm not sure how Phillip feels about this though - it would mean eliminating about 4000 members which could be very tedious to do member by member also assuming each would have to be carfully checked.
