That's why I like Weird Al. He's not trying to belittle a famous artist and their songs...he's making great parodies of them for fun and originality. I enjoy his songs and the works he parodied, but if he couldn't get permission from a legend like Prince to make something fun out of one of their songs, so be it. I read online that Prince wouldn't even let Weird Al get near him at a ceremony (I forget which one) due to the repeated refusal. Prince really was quite serious about his music.The thing with Weird Al, he does not parody people's work out of malice. It's his gift of taking others' work and putting his twist on it, that makes him so brilliant. If he did a spoof on Prince, it wouldn't belittle him in any way.
By the way, it should be pretty obvious that people have been uploading videos of Prince's songs on YouTube since his death. I noticed tonight that "Little Red Corvette" (which was uploaded Thursday) was quickly taken down, and it amassed over 2,000,000 views.
