Mort Walker, best known as the primary artist and creator of Beetle Bailey, has died today at the age of 94.

R.I.P. Mort, you will be missed, and your characters of Beetle, Sgt. Snorkel, Killer, Gen. Halftrack, Zero, and numerous others will live on in our memories.

At this point, it looks like Beetle Bailey's artwork would be continued by his sons...

Even though I haven't read the funny papers in a long, long time, BEETLE BAILEY was always a favorite of mine . . . I can even remember a long time ago adding a new Tech Sergeant to the cast, and holding a contest to come up with a new name for him - I remember submitting a name, but in hindsight, it was really, really stupid.

And who can forget Cookie (as the camp cook, he slung a mean hash) and Otto.
Even made their way to Sesame Street demonstrating first and last.

Mr. Walker, you'll always be first.

Not to mention Howard Morris (aka Ernest T. Bass from Andy Griffith, and Flem from Cow and Chicken) did Beetle's voice in animated form.

Mort was even responsible for coining comic book terms like "briffits" (dust clouds from a character running off the scene), "plewds" (sweat drops), "squeans" (starbursts representing illness or intoxication), and most importantly, "grawlixes" (those symbols used to censor out naughty words, like so: @$&*%!).
