Aretha sang most of her life. In the mid 60's she made two poppy albums for Columbia that went nowhere. It wasn't until she moved to Atlantic, recorded at Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and along came RESPECT (originally done by Otis Redding) and the legend was born.

Nowadays any girl singer is called a diva. But Aretha is one of the very few who deserve that title.

Aretha Franklin is often considered the greatest singer of all time. I don’t quite agree because I think there are a few better, but it’s undeniable that she sang with a passion and could do things with her voice few others could. I would take her over 99% of the godawful singers who are big today. RIP to a true legend.
