you have to have a vhs/DVD player combo they make them now,

Right, that's the easiest way. Or, if you have the right connections, you can connect your VCR outputs into the DVD recorder inputs. That should work, too (unless the vhs tape is copy protected!)

yeah, we connect our VCR to our DVD recorder. But as sesameguy said. You still can't record copy protected Videos. As far as I know.
