Ok, so I bought the CD "The Greatest Hits of Bert and Ernie" over my break. In a couple of the songs a character named Herbert Birdsfoot is singing with them. Now, I've only heard of him but really don't remember him. All I know is that he was performed by Jerry Nelson. So could someone tell me...

1) Who he is?
2) Lead me to a picture, if there is one?
3) When did he disappear?
4) And anything else you think might be helpful.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help.

Hi Christy, thought I'd come in and try to help.
1 Herbert Birdsfoot was a sort of professorial or teacher AM. He'd do these types of lectures with Grover mostly.
2 As for a picture, there might be one of him in either the Sesame Street Library volumes or Sesame Street Dictionary.
3 He sort of dropped out of sight when they brought Kermit back to do his normal lectures and bits on the Street.
4 There are two lectures he did on the letter M that stick out in my memories. The first was with the letter M that kept turning upside-down into a W, kind of like Ernie's poem about the number 21 and then 12. Herbert sought to solve the problem by having the screen turned upside-down to show the M turned upside-down right side up again. But the M turned itself right side up which made it look like an upside-down W when the screen was turned upside-down itself. The second one is with Grover, where Herbert would point to Grover to make the M sound when talking about the letter. Turns out that Grover ate some peanut butter and his mouth got stuck shut. Herbert unstuck Grover's mouth and walked away. After which Grover was grateful but his mouth got stuck shut again.
Hope this helps.

If you want to see a picture of Herbert Birdsfoot, click on the link below. He's the small purplish muppet with glasses, orange nose, and mustache between Fat Blue mailman and Herry Monster.

Thanks guys. I've heard his voice a hundred times but I've never seen him. Must've dropped out before my time. Thanks for the info!

Poor Herb. He didn't even make the pages of the "Sesame Street Unpaved" book.
