I was just wondering something about our little "Muppet community": what's the story about movies? I've been on Ninja Turtle forums and people will like the first movie, but HATE the other 2, or like the comics and new cartoon and HATE the old cartoon. Same thing on Transformers forums, some people will like the original Transformers show but hate any thing to do with beasts. I haven't been here long enough to know, so what's the general opinion with Muppet movies and such? Personally, I like each Muppet movie, but some of them more than others.

well, I can't speak for everyone, but there are some feelings shared by a lot of people

the first three movies were the best, but saying which one was the best out of the three comes up with different answers!

early and middle 90's were cheez-o-rama.

VMX was a small but good step in the right direction

I don't think anyone here HATES a movie, but I could be wrong

Like Sarah, I can't speak for everyone, but my opinion is the best.

The first 3 Muppet movies are the greatest. They were Jim Henson films. That's pretty much agreed.

I personally liked Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island quite a bit. Most people are iffy about these two. It's hit and miss.

Muppets from Space was a debacle, only because there was no original music. The story was ok. The cameos are now really dated (especially the "Hollywood Hogan" one.) And they ruined one of the greastest mysteries in Muppetdom... what is Gonzo?

A Very Merry Muppet Christmas -- I again enjoyed this one. No, there wasn't any music, but it was a made for tv movie, and most don't. I didn't walk in expecting it to have great music. The story was good. Lots of good references to other Christmas movies. Whoopi as God was.... uummmmmmm... interesting. But it seemed like they got back to the muppets roots with strange interaction between humans and puppets in an ordinary type of way. And Pepe stole the show.

Here's the scorecard as far as movies:

First 3: Everyone agrees (pretty much), 5 stars *****
Next 3: Disagreement between everyone, between 1 star and 4 stars */****
Last 1: More or less better reviews, 2.5 - 4.5 stars **1/2 / ****1/2

Hope that helps and have a nice day.

(Sorry for stealing the catchphrase Count.)

I agree with the general consensus that "The Muppet Movie" was the best film and that the first three were really Jim Henson movies. I don't think it's completely fair to compare the mid-90s films to those three because they were adaptations, forcing the Muppets in to a set (more or less) storyline where they played characters other than themselves. Not that putting the Muppets in an original storyline is a guarantee of success (case in point: "Muppets From Space").

My favorite of all the films is actually Treasure Island, because, well, it's got a lot of Clueless Morgan and a lot of pirates. It's of course also got a lot of that annoying kid that sings like he was kicked between the legs, but no movie is perfect.

Though they're not movies, two of my actual favorite Muppet things is "Muppet Classic Theatre" (I love that) and "The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson" which is very touching - especially that last scene.

Yeah, Jim Hawkins was very annoying :stick_out_tongue: But Long John I thought was pretty good. I think my favorite is Treasure Island too, followed by Christmas Carol, then Muppet Movie, then a tie between Great Muppet Caper and Muppets Take Manhattan, then Muppets from Space. They're all good though  I agree that the first three have a certain charm though. I also love Muppet Classic Theater and Muppets Celebrat Jim Henson (veeeerrryyy touching). I only saw Very merry muppet christmas once so I won't say much about it, except I thought it was good and the Yoda cameo was hilarious

I like MTI, myself. Not as must as the first three, but it does have a certain fondness

I really liked Long John Silver, too. I've seen him in a lot of movies, and I thought he did a great job as the infamous pirate. I liked the movie on the whole. I also liked Christmas Carol a lot. The Muppets, Charles Dickens, and Michael Caine - pretty winning combination! Of course, I'm a sucker for Christmas movies. I would say, though, that I liked Christmas Carol quite a bit better than Very Merry Muppet Christmas. For some reason, that one just didn't really do it for me.

How can you? Sahme on you. I think he is GREAT!!!

I think that everyone forgot MSY wich is regarded around here from a distance rather like a leper or something.

General opinion is that Joe the Armadilo (who I hated BTW) was the only good thing.

Personally, I like them all. And although it probably goes against general concensus, Muppets From Space is my favorite so far :stick_out_tongue:
