I remember that episode too, and this is the first time I'd seen it since. (I'd misremembered it as Gordon telling us David moved to the farm, though. Sorry, Gina. )

It's an especially strong memory for me. Like probably many other kids, my first reaction was "Huh? He moved where?" It seemed so random and out of nowhere. Then, a few months later, my parents had some friends over, and I overheard them mentioning that he had died. I was like "Ohhhhhh, that explains it...."

My parents would have been talking about it because they had both known him in the early 70s when they were in the same acting class. (I believe that's actually where my parents met). Not very well, but they would have been on a friendly first-name basis.
