Princeton, you can start by signing up for a free service. www.blogger.com is a really good one (the muppet newsflash is a blogger blog, same with alot others), it's free and looks really professional from the start. Livejournal is okay.
So you sign up, you can choose the name of your blog and what it looks like. How to post; when you sign in it will have a link somewhere saying "make a new post" or something like that, and you just type in it like you would on a message board, and there will be a button that says "publish" or "save your post" or something, and then the site does all the work for you and puts your new entry right at the top of your blog. It does all the updating for you.
Yea, you can post pictures on most blogs. Usually there is a button at the top you press. If there isn't, go into HTML mode (there is usually an option for that, also.) and type
Code:

I hope that isn't confusing...
Other members can post comments to what you posted on your blog if you have that enabled, which will usually be bellow your blog entries.
