Which song do you like better, Put Down The Duckie or Monster In The Mirror?

I like Monster In The Mirror better. It has a lot of cool special effects, an appearance by an animated Grover, and a lot of better celebrity cameos, including The Simpsons. Plus, I think it's funny how the cameos were done (seems liek the editors were going crazy with the cameos, which seem like a moving collage).

Gosh, I don't know if I could pick! I LOVE Grover and the song is really cute and funny, but since I was younger when Put Down the Duckie came out I think I actually have to go with that. I remember it was part of a nighttime special and it was pretty cool.

Put Down The Duckie was not originally part of a nighttime special. Both songs were originally produced withotu celebrity appearances, and then during the years the songs were produced, whenever a celebrity made an appearance on the show the producers taped a special verse with those celebrities and edited them into the songs later. I'm not really sure if The Simpsons actually made an appearance on Sesame Street outside of Monster In The Mirror.

The first tiem I remember seeing Put Down The Duckie with celebrity cameos was in a TV special called The Sesame Street Special, which was produced as a pledge drive special, and after this special was broadcast, I never saw the complete original non-celebrity version again. A short clip of the non-celebrity version was shown in Sesame Street's 25th Birthday: A Musical celebration.

The celebrity version of Monster In The Mirror was shown in another pledge drive special, Big Bird's Birthday or Let Me Eat Cake. I wouldn't be surprised if that special featured the debut of that version of the song.

I'm not sure if the non-celebrity versions of either song were ever seen on the show after the celebrity versions were shown, but the original, non-celebrity version of Monster In The Mirror has been released on video twice (in Rock & Roll and A Musical Celebration) while the celebrity version hasn't been released on any commercial videos.

The non-celebrity versions are also the versions available on various albums.

I like "Put Down the Duckie" a lot! I think it is what Hoots is best known for. Was this one of his first appearances, anyone know? Anyway...I think the first time I heard it was actually on a tape my mom bought me. I loved it. I love how they used Hoots to sing good advice to other characters (Ernie in this case) in a cool way. He did a similar type thing with Cookie Monster in "A Cookie Is a Sometime Food". I'm not a huge fan of "Monster in the Mirror" probably because I like the the style of the other song which was more a jazzy rock and roll.

I loved both those celebrity appearances songs. I think they should take the Cookie Monster song, Gingerbread Man, and have celebrities do that one.

Or if you really want a good laugh, have celebrities dance to "Doin' the Pigeon."

I can't choose between either, but I did like it better than the Celebrity "Sing" and "Dance Myself to sleep" (which wasn't seemless, like the others)
