Point of fact - in the United States and Canada you are legally entitled to record public broadcasts, largely because of the idea that the public "owns" the airwaves (subject to heavy government regulation of course...ugh). Practically speaking you can do pretty much whatever you like with the tape. Legally you're not really supposed to make additional copies but as someone already pointed out unless you're selling tapes you probably won't have a problem.

I have no idea what the EU rules are but I believe they are fairly different from North America.
Yeah they are different. Atleast here in the Netherlands we are not allowed by law to make copies of copies. We are allowed to tape a certain program but not to share that copy. Nobody really cares though. But I don't usually share these things. Except with my best friend because we tape things for each other or else we don't have enough VCR's hehe :stick_out_tongue:

But other than that I'm trying to obey the law. It's up to everybody to decide for themselves if they wish to do so or not. But you CAN get seued for it. And I understand why. If you want that to change you'd have to change the law. Wich to me is always a better option than anarchy, everyone just doing whatever they want to. One example:

I noticed The Lone Gunmen is coming out on DVD. Before this alot of people used to share the illegal copies. It would seem then that there is no interrest in the DVD's. People don't sign petitions for it or whatever because it's available to them already. So they never get published. And even if they do there is a big chance that the people who already have the TV-rips are not interrested in buying it anymore. Because they 'already have it'.

Most people understand this. They just don't want to. because it'll cost them money if they want to buy DVD's. Been there. Know how it feels. It's just something you have to accept. Granted that there is a slight difference between copying a movie from DVD or a documentary from TV. But still... The law is the law. That was actually my point. I never asked if anyone agreeed with those laws. That's not my business. And the laws are probably different then in the US. So it probably doesnt even apply to everyone. Just a friendly warning to those who take heed.
