Good puppetry training is very, very hard to get. There is UCONN, but that is not an option for a lot of people and I would argue that even better than a University program is working hands-on with very talented, experienced puppetry artists.

If you in or near NYC and looking to learn, Basil Twist is looking for interns for his next show. Here are the details:

We are looking for interns for "Behind the Lid" a multi-media theater collaboration between Basil Twist and Lee Nagrin. This internship will consist of building basic puppets and set pieces for a piece that includes video-projections, installation, puppetry, performance and one giant diorama. Ideal candidates will have some carpentry, shop or sewing experience, or atleast an adventurous approach to making things. This is an unpaid internship, but we will help you get university credit for your time. This will be a hands-on experience! You will learn a lot, you will have fun, you WILL get dirty! We would like a commitment of 10-20hrs a week for March, April and June, but are flexible within that time-frame as well. For more information on Basil Twist, please visit his website: http://www.basiltwist.com For more information on Lee Nagrin, please visit her website: http://www.leenagrin.com Interested individuals should email a resume, availability and a bit about themselves to jessiemonster@mac.com

Basil Twist's work is amazing and beautiful. If you're able to spare the time and in NYC you should seriously consider doing this, it would be a great way to learn and make contacts.
