Very few puppeteers are salaried. Most are freelancers and pay varies quite a bit depending on where you work. Some puppeteers might make $100-250 per live show, while unionized puppeteers working on camera can make $250-1000+ per day depending on what they are doing.

What type of work are you thinking of?

Well I was thinking of hiring extra puppeteers for a direct to DVD sort of project.

It really depends on the type of work you're doing. Buck-Beaver's estimation is correct. If you have the budget for it, great. If you don't, I would recommend finding some enthusiastic people who can work in an internship type capacity, i.e. free. After all, JH didn't pay his puppeteers very well at first, as Carroll Spinney himself said. You've got to start small.

How about puppet builders, puppet captains, and other personnel. Are their salieries simular?

Puppet builders are a little the same, some will give you different prices based on the puppet you are asking and how its built...want MrBloogarFoobly said is probably the best way to go
